Happy Memorial Day

If I can tear myself away from the Playstation I’ll probably barbeque today. That’s about as patriotic as I get. What about you? What are you doing this weekend?

Birthday Pie

The Girl had her 18th birthday this year. This year, when it came time to make the traditional cake, she put her foot down. Although she’s always eaten it, and often complimented it, she says she doesn’t like cake. Well, I’ll admit I’d noticed that everyone in the family prefers the icing, but I never expected anyone to out and out refuse my cake. I make it from scratch. It tends to be a little too moist and heavy, but […]

Progress

I guess I’m in a progress type mood. On Thursday I looked at my New Years resolutions and considered how I was doing on them. I bit off more than I could chew, but I already knew that. I’ve made tolerable progress on the writing front, but clearly bit off more than I can chew. There’s no way I’ll get all five books revised this year. I’m still going to shoot for two, but I’ll probably let the rest slide […]

Social Justice

The Girl is a self proclaimed Social Justice Warrior. She’s been haranguing me about racism, sexism, homophobia and the like for a couple of years now. It reminds me a great deal of the kind of lectures I was treated to from friends and acquaintances when I was in my twenties. Only then we called them Political Correctos. In the last few months her fervor has mellowed a little. She’s starting to see the extremities of the movements and the […]

My Computer Chirps

My computer chirps at me. I’m assuming it’s some kind of notification system that I have flagged somewhere deep in the programming. It’s not obnoxious. Just a little cricket kind of sound, only briefer and quieter. Still, it bothers me because I don’t know what it means. I’ve guessed it’s email related, but no proof. I’ve guessed it’s an etsy thing, or a blog thing. So far, no luck in tracking it down. I’m sure some day it will annoy […]

Labels

I don’t like syrup in my canned fruit. It just seems like unnecessary calories to me. So when I saw these were water packed, I grabbed the. Silly me. I should have read just a little further down the label. Of course if they weren’t going to use sugar they would use something else. I didn’t realize it until I swallowed. At first I thought it was aspartame, except it wasn’t as strong of an off flavor. So I checked […]

Best. Card. Ever.

I got this in the mail the other day. Talk about my style! I love it.

Windows Calling

I got a weird phone call last night. It was a man with an Indian accent who assure me he was calling from the Windows error report center who wanted to talk me through fixing my computer. Seriously? Why would Microsoft call me? I mean, even if I did have a problem with my computer that caused it to send error reports, why call? I never gave them my phone number. When I asked, the guy claimed it was in […]

Cockeyed

I tend to take weird pictures. You only see a fraction of them. That’s because most of my weird pictures don’t make sense to anyone but me. They are often blurred or out of focus. I take them because I see things that are not where or what I’m expected to be looking at and think it’s interesting. It’s really hard to make a camera focus on the distant hills or ocean when there are trees whooshing past. I think […]

I Am Not a Robot

I’ve been clicking the little box for all I’m worth, but sometimes I wonder. Am I wrong?

Veggies

This week’s focus in my diet program is on adding more fruit and vegetables to your diet. It couldn’t have come at a better time. I was just starting to despair over getting enough verity in my diet to keep me going because of all the foods I’ve had to drop. (cheese – sniffle, sniffle) As if all my food allergies weren’t enough. So anyway, in a couple of days I ended up cleaning out every item in my food […]

Health Program

My doctor sent me to a diet program. Apparently she’s concerned because I have diabetes and heart disease riddling my family history. She suckered me in on the possibility that if I lose enough weight I might be able to drop the blood pressure medicine. It’s a cool program. If your doctor recommends one like it, I say jump on it. It’s free to participants with backing by both the state and the CDC. The statistics collected get turned in […]

True Love Is a Tree

I was reading one of Brian’s poems when it occurred to me that I tend to say a lot about love. This, of course, is pretty reasonable for a Romance writer, right? How many of you forgot that I’m a Romance writer? How many of you never knew? I don’t generally lean toward the sappy. I certainly have my moments, but really, I’m a bit too… I can’t really say “down to earth”. Maybe “earthy” is more like it. I […]

Long Distance Aid

My mother likes to travel. What, you noticed? At the moment she is in Viet Nam. According to my sister, she has come down with an infection. She was hoping to get some advice from her doctor, but the doctor’s office is closed all weekend and Monday as well. Apparently I’m not the only one who always seems to have medical problems crop up when the doctor’s office is closed. I swear I’m always perfectly fine on Friday, at death’s […]

My Good Name

I recently learned that someone is sending emails in my name. If you’re careful, you can see that it’s not actually coming from me at all. The sender is actually djs [at] shestokas [dot] com. There’s a link in the email. I have no idea where it goes. I wouldn’t click it if I were you. I’ve double checked everything that I can, and it does not appear that I have been hacked. As I said, the sender is faking […]
