For Moving In

Seriously Reviewed said "You know? Every so often you read a story that starts a little slow on the first few pages and then.....BAM it just explodes! This was one of them for me."

Kaye's Book Review Page
on which she said The book is "short, sweet, light-hearted and just plain fun."

Vince at Philosophy of Romance said "Alice Audrey’s voice is fresh, feisty, full of surprises and always fun. The author also deals with real people having real problems and she does it in a very insightful way."

Nessa at Chrysalis Stage said "If you like sweet, fast-paced romance with a hot hero and all of the misunderstandings that two people can throw at each other, then you will love this story."

Night Owl Reviews didn't have anything nice to say about it. Hey, you can't win them all.

Brenda Talley of Romance Studio said " I recommend this book to anyone. It was a pleasure to read and I shall look for more of her work in the future. "

By Guta Bauer at Murphy's Library did it twice! Once in English and once in Portuguese. I'm assuming they both say, "Life goes on, choices need to be made and we can never let our past deny us of our future. That’s just some of the things we learn from this story. "

If you did a review of my book, let me know! I'll be glad to link to you, even if you didn't like the book.

.. Association Meme.. (first hub)

I challenge you to stump me.

Have you ever played the word association game? In that game, someone will say a word, then the next person says the first word they think of. Each person who follows simply says what ever word comes to mind, based on the previous word.

For instance:
Person 1: red
Person 2: bull
Person 3: pasture
Person 4: grass
etc.

For the meme, it would look more like this:

Alice said excitement

Hootin’ Anni said thrill

Mari said ride as in roller coaster

Alice said I remember riding the “Batman” roller coaster in Great America. You dangled from it with your feet hanging down. There was a pile of shoes under it and a sign warning that if you lost them, you wouldn’t get them back. So my response is “shoes”.

As you can see, I’ve taken this to another level and adjusted it for blogging. Here are the rules:

1. Anyone can play, whether they have been tagged or not.
2. Include the rules and logo in your post.
3. Copy out all the responses that were made before you.
4. Link to each of the people who responded before you.
5. Put in your response. Your response can be as little as a single word or as much as 100 words. It can be a word, a phrase, an image, a song, a video, a story, or a short rant.
6. Tag anyone you would like to challenge to play this game. You do not have to tag anyone.
7. You can do this any time you run across it, even if you were one of the previous responders.

If you have done this meme on your blog, you are welcome to put your link in here. Be sure to link to the specific post, and welcome to the Association Association.

Want to simply jump in? You are welcome to start with the word “Excitement”, or to take off from any of the responses you find among the players listed below or from anywhere you see this meme.

Want to see if you can stump me? Post your response to any chain, then come here and tell me. I’ll do the next link on my blog. I bet I’ll can come up with something you didn’t expect.

13 Memes I Have Taken Part In

I love memes. They are like being part of a party. You get visitors, and go visiting, and don’t have to worry about how you are received. Here are 13 I’ve done.

1. Thursday Thirteen. I assume no explanation is needed.

2. Fiction Friday 55 – Write a story in 55 words.

3. PhotoHunt – Done on Saturday, you post a photo that matches their one word description.

4. Simply Delicious Sunday – post a recipe

5. Yummy Sunday – post a picture of food.

6. Tuesday Teaser – quote two sentences from your current read.

7. Wordless Wednesday – post a photo.

8. Weekend Writer’s Retreat – post any kind of fiction.

9. Picture Meme – post the sixth picture in your sixth picture folder.

10. NaBlPoMo – Post something every single day for a month.

11. Fiction Friday – any kind of fiction posted at any time and liked to on Friday. Dead at the moment, but will probably be coming back, pending certain changes over at Romance Roundtable.

12. Rumor. Used to be called Whisper. This is one I created. Now that I’ve settled into my new digs, I’m going to do it again. This time there will be more prizes. Lots more prizes.

13. Association. I just invented this one. It’s a fun, silly game involving coming up with a response to what someone else said. Come back here on Monday to see for yourself.

The hub is here
As always, I welcome the link to your Thursday Thirteen in my comments as well as in Mr. Linky.

Books and Shoes

About a month ago, when my life was as intense as it’s ever been, Gattina tagged me for a show-me-your-shoes meme. At the time I barely noticed. Now, finally, my life is looking more normal. I remember that I said I’d do it, then didn’t. Well, better late than never.

These are the shoes I wear every day. I wear them in the house and out of it. I wear them with pants, skirts, and bathrobes. Except for about two hours when I wore a stylish pair of flats that put blisters on my heels, I wore my crocks all through the Romance Writers of America convention. Except for a tendency for conversations about shoes to break out around me in which mine were not even glanced at, I seem to have gotten away with it.

See the book cover to the left? Thats one of dozens of books I had shipped home from the convention. It’s about a woman who has no intention of ever getting married that finds an antique wedding dress in an old trunk, which she purchased at auction while sitting next to a guy who would like to change her mind.

I expect you’ll be seeing a lot more of the books I got at the convention as time goes by. This one is very, very gently used, as I’ve decided it isn’t really my cup of tea. Would you like it? Say so in any of the comments you leave between now and Friday and I’ll put you in a drawing for it.

Debut

55 words. The last story Alice wrote was very short, only 23,000 words. The one before; 105,000. She nibbled the end of her quill, considering. Global warming? The economy? True love? What could she possibly write that would be exactly and only 55 words? She set the quill to paper. One. Two. Three. Four. Five…

7 Things

Heather
tagged me for this one. She did a bookish take on it. I think I’ll do the same.

1- Until my kids made me re-read Harry Potter half a dozen times I used to never, ever re-read books.

2 – I got hooked on manga. Yeah, big secret there.

3 – I frequently re-read manga. It still don’t generally re-read romance, SF, or classics.

4 – I don’t like mainstream at all. I find it boring and tedious.

5 – At one point I convinced myself I shouldn’t read anything at all because it was cutting into my writing time. I made myself stop. Instead of writing more, I ended up watching TV.

6 – I used to make myself finish any book I started reading, no matter how bad it was. If I tried to put it down and walk away, I’d go nuts trying to figure out what was going to happen next, even if I didn’t care while actually reading.

7 – Now I don’t bother to finish about a third of all the books I pick up. If I get curious enough, I simply skip to the end.

Who to tag? This is a hard one for me. Ok, getting REAL random here:

Vicki, Library Lady, Darla, Forgetful One, Kate, Sharon, Marina.

I picked each of you because I know you are readers.

Picture Meme

Michelle introduced me to this meme. When I saw where I landed, I couldn’t resist.

The instructions are:

* Go to your Sixth Picture Folder then pick your Sixth Picture.

* Pray that you remember the details.

* Tag 5 others.

This is what I landed on. Considering how gerbils play a part in my blog and web site, I couldn’t resist.

This is Midnight. She’s about 6 months old in this picture. Did you know gerbils can live up to five years, but are only fertile for a couple of them? By now I suspect she’s menopausal.

The Girl sold midnight recently. Between that and a couple of deaths we are now down to three gerbils. Whewh! *wiping brow in releif*

Anyway, go look in your photos and see what you come up with. It’s fun.

Tagged and Awarded

I’ve been getting tagged like crazy lately. Since Alice’s Restaurant runs on a schedule, I’m a little limited in when I can do memes. I appreciate everyone’s patience while I waited for a slot to open up.

Whisper

We’re playing Telephone again, only this time I’m going to call it “Whisper.”

What you do is make a change in the paragraph below. It can be as little as a single word or almost every word, so long as we can still recognize the paragraph you received. I’m talking about the one in the blog of the person who tagged you, not the original paragraph. Tag three people, and link to them.  Also link to the person who tagged you so the chain will not be broken! Now go to the original paragraph at  http://aliceaudrey.wordpress.com/2008/05/11/whisper and let Alice know you did it. She will link to you. For extra credit, head over to http://AliceAudrey.wordpress.com around June 9th for the contest based on this meme.  You could win a $20 gift certificate.

Here’s your paragraph:

He came from nowhere, a gun in one hand and a flower in the other. His name was Ricardo, but she’d always called him Clem. She said she liked his deep, brown eyes. Instead of thanking her he took her watch and her left shoe, and ran off with Merry D.

I’m whispering to Unhinged, Kathleen Oxley, and Renee

You can find the list of those who have done this meme here: Echo of a Whisper

DON’T FORGET TO LINK UP TO PEOPLE, OR TO LET ME KNOW YOU DID THIS. If you don’t let me know you did the meme, you may not be included in the game.

No, Jack! No!

Been at it all night

Jill:  Jack?  What are you doing?

Jack:  Drinking.

Jill:  I can see that.  What I want to know is why?

Jack:  You want me to paint the thing on the roof, right?

Jill:  (slowly)  Yeahhhhhh.

Jack:  I needed a little courage.

Jill:  Oh no.  No, no, no!  You are not going up there like this.

Jack:  Do you want it done, or don’t you?

Jack and Jill Paint the House

Gee, thanks Eagle Roofing.

As if climbing up the file cabinet to get the paint last week wasn’t bad enough.  This week Jill wants to actually use the paint.

Jack:   You want me to paint WHAT?

Jill:  Come on, Jack.  You can see for yourself it’s just primer.  We have to paint it soon.  The real estate lady said so.

Jack:  By “we” you wouldn’t happen to mean you, would you?

Jill:  You don’t really expect ME to get on the roof, do you?  Do you have any idea how steep it is?

Jack: Yeah.  I know exactly how steep it is.  So what will you do if I fall off and die?

 Jill:  Um…. cry?

Jack:  I can’t believe I’m letting you talk me into this.

I am disappointed in this picture. To get it I had to literally lay in the gutter. The sun on the screen of my camera made it hard to tell what I was getting, so I didn’t realize you can’t see Jill pointing to the top of the house.
