Reviews

For Moving In

Seriously Reviewed said "You know? Every so often you read a story that starts a little slow on the first few pages and then.....BAM it just explodes! This was one of them for me."

Kaye's Book Review Page
on which she said The book is "short, sweet, light-hearted and just plain fun."

Vince at Philosophy of Romance said "Alice Audrey’s voice is fresh, feisty, full of surprises and always fun. The author also deals with real people having real problems and she does it in a very insightful way."

Nessa at Chrysalis Stage said "If you like sweet, fast-paced romance with a hot hero and all of the misunderstandings that two people can throw at each other, then you will love this story."

Night Owl Reviews didn't have anything nice to say about it. Hey, you can't win them all.

Brenda Talley of Romance Studio said " I recommend this book to anyone. It was a pleasure to read and I shall look for more of her work in the future. "

By Guta Bauer at Murphy's Library did it twice! Once in English and once in Portuguese. I'm assuming they both say, "Life goes on, choices need to be made and we can never let our past deny us of our future. That’s just some of the things we learn from this story. "

If you did a review of my book, let me know! I'll be glad to link to you, even if you didn't like the book.

Theresa’s Chronicle – The Well of Light

He loves her.
Each morning glistens like morning dew on the rose petals
as she stumbles into the kitchen
where coffee splashing into the cup warms his smile.
She sets the toast to slow-burn and stops for a kiss
that is never as quick as intended nor
as long as either would like.
When she heads out the door, his scent lingers
giving her a Mona Lisa smile all day.

Theresa’s In Love

Strange man, chestnut hair and twinkling eyes,
smiled at her.
A year ago, she would have
pretended not to notice.
A month ago, she would have
smiled, blushed, looked away,
too uncomfortable in her own skin
to be noticed.
Today she said hello.

An explosion of possibility unfolded in her mind.
Morning at the kitchen table, handing him a cup of coffee
while birds sang and she tugged at her bathrobe.
Evenings at the movies, or an Italian restaurant or
ballroom dancing in high heels and a fluttery gown.
Rocking chairs on the porch moving in synchronicity.
All the things long denied finally within reach.

She would not stare at him, passing in dignity, but she smiled.
“Wow, what a hottie.” His friend said.
“Yeah. Wait here. I’m going to get her number.”

The Belonging Set: Theresa’s Chronicle I

Too noble for the pitch and yaw of friendship, Theresa
sailed the halls of high school alone.
Waves of dewy friendship crashing all around her,
she arrives at graduation high and dry.
Sentimental speeches and crying friends clinging to one another
leave her unmoved,
but the simple crossing of the stage brings home the sure knowledge
that passing through life alone is too hard.
Too late for this stage of life, she has learned what will redeem her.
She must change.

Stop!

Rolling fast through nowhere
spinning wheels
hurry
to reach
more nowhere.
Quick,
before the sun goes down
and spinning gets hard.

160 — The Handiness of a Windbag

Sometimes
it feels as if I have in my lungs
all the hot air in the world,
If I stood in the right place
I could power
every house.
Just ask, and I’ll tell you about it.

The Flow

There is a flow,
A rush of love, light, laughter
Meaning, respect, and justice
Running through all things in the universe
Which we hide from ourselves.
We close ourselves up, turn away,
And claim all is barren and arid
Even as the flow pummels our backs.
Opening up to this flow
Is the first step to a better life
But makes us feel
As if we are breaking.

Tick Tock

Time melts
tick
tick
tick
away. Urgent
tick
tick
taking with it last chances
to hug, to love, to write.
tick
tick
tick
I see the sands of my life flowing down
tick
and yet
tick
tick
tick
I sit and stare
doing nothing with this moment for fear
tick
tick
of the next.

This is another tribute to The Walking Man, whose poetry often inspires me.

Candles on Shore

Beautiful moon
hidden from the wooded path
can not light the way.
Shade trees
cast midnight shadows.
Dark water moving slow
like molasses in the night, sluggish and dark
where daylight had shown clear but deep.
Wading across seems longer now.
So easy to be turned around, lost,
Until a friend arrives with a candle.

Mama Earth

While she slept we plundered.
Clever children, we thought. We are getting away
with murder.
She stirred in her sleep, sending up
earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and drought.
Did the dinosaurs know this fear?
or even those before, that she didn’t bother to record?
Mama Earth can take care of herself.
It is only we who will die.

After the Affair

She rose
from the ashes of her dismay
a phoenix
made new for a life
far above her original dreams
taking to the air in a fiery show
of determined self confidence.
She will not be laughed at
anymore.
She will leave behind
all the ants who thought to take away
her best parts
and make them their own.

Shikigami Paper Doll

Paper man
Made by a child
Found on the floor
Wadded up
Thrown away
When no one is looking
Unfolds himself
Runs across carpet
To a neglected door
Slipping through
When the child
Works her magic
Wiggles a finger
Calls him back
To play
Slave

Band Aide

Cutting corners, making do.
Enough, but never extra.
One day I cut myself.
Reached for a Band Aide.
Fancy, with shaped corners and special glue
I have to remind myself
It’s leftover, bought on sale, okay to use.
I can stop looking and bleeding
Counting the cost against the need.
I deserve this Band Aide.

Good Bye Wise Friend

He walks slowly into a shroud, lingering, lingering,
Talking to those walking behind,
Giving his brave monologue of experience
In simple words made vast by insight.
I would call to him, plead,
Please stay. Don’t leave us.
But I know the futility.
He does not realize his feet aren’t moving.
What closes the distance is the shroud.

Bah!

Fluffy sheep jumping white pickets
in Facebook aps
never end.
The same white fence, the same white sheep.
Copy, paste, friend and tweet
Sending round and round
messages of almost-connection.
Warmth from a name
made familiar by kind repetition
lulling the sheep
with illusions of solidity,
making them think
it is safe to jump.

Recipe for Disaster

I blame this one on Clean and Crazy, who didn’t know she was giving me ideas.

Take one reindeer with frayed electrical cord to the roof.
Add Christmas Music played at 20 decibels
to one irate neighbor.
Mix in a dozen screaming kids in the yard,
a broken shingle,
an open bottle of burgundy
empty stomach
and fresh snow.
Finish with a spouse holding a light bulb.
“You forgot his nose!”
