Categotry Archives: Day to Day Life

A.B.L.E.

I have a problem I admit it freely. I have a bad case of ABLE. ABLE stands for Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy. It can be applied to all kinds of things from books to embroidery supplies to paint. It simply means you stalk up on more projects than you can reasonably expect to finish in the course of one lifetime. Specifically, I an a fabricholic. I love the look and feel of fabric. I love the possibilities it presents. A […]

What’s New?

My mother has a new kitten. He’s very cute, and very active, and hard to get pictures of. The girl is having a grand old time playing with him, but the boy isn’t quite as interested. My mother said what he needs is a big dog he can run around. Personally, I’d like to have both a dog and a cat, maybe a couple of cats. Mr. Al is not so keen on it. He seems to think you can […]

Lock Down

I happened to be in a grade school recently when a practice lock down was ordered.  At first I didn’t know what was happening.  One minute I was passing out juice, the next the teacher had locked the door and turned off the lights.  All the kids piled into a corner and sat down.  Even I was expected to sit on the floor making as little noise as possible. We remained like that for half an hour.  I timed it because […]

On My Feet Again

It’s taking me about twice as long to recover from the flue as it did anyone else in the family.  That’s all right.  I’m a woman.  I can take it. What do you think?  Are men wimps, or what?  Not mine, of course.  Last time he complained, he really did almost die. Now it is simply a matter of scraping my life back together.  I’ve done well on revisions, but I hadn’t planned on starting them until I had a […]

Thursday Thirteen#17: Netflix – Likes and Dislikes

I had a little falling out with my local video store (Crazy Mike’s) when the refused to give me credit for an overdue charge I had already paid. The result was that I thought I’d give Netflix a try. 1. Netflix has dang near everything! I have found things in their inventory I didn’t know existed. 2. It takes three days from when I send a DVD back until I get the next one. Minimum. Longer if I send it Friday […]

Victoria Alexander Chat

Is it so surprising this has been on my mind this week?  This one was kind of my baby.  I winged VA on her way out of the chat session last fall during the big FanLit Forever one year anniversary, and reminded her she said yes this February.  Now if only I’d realized how fast time was passing so I could do a better job of advertising it.Anyway, VA and I may be very lonely in the chatroom.  We could […]

Girl Scout Cookie Contest

The girl is a Girl Scout.   Needless to say I bought far more cookies than I needed.  That’s all right.  It means those of you who were not buttonholed by the Girl Scouts in your life get a chance to benefit.  Simply leave a comment in any of my blogs posted between now and noon on Wednesday and I’ll include your name in the list from which I will draw a winner.  Comment on Friday and I’ll enter you twice.  […]

Which Way Do You Go Around Your Car?

I did all right this week.  I finished the rough draft of A Miss for Mark, which is why the ticker came down on all the boards where I hang out.  Yay!  It’s so good to have that done.  Now if only it didn’t need so much revision.   We closed the polls on the Best Revisions of 2007 at FanLit Forever.  Yay Natasia for first place.  I started my submission for the next round, though I’m no where near done […]

Surf's Up

I’ve been wandering all over the place this week.  I stumbled upon Ramblings on Romance where I found this: What strikes me about this performance – a performance I believe rises above the vast majority of those I’ve seen before including the live Olympic practice session I saw in Utah – is that it is IN CHARACTER.  He is expressing an archetype in movement and attitude, right down to the facial hair.  Go to the end after he’s off the […]

ADD

Last week I learned that my daughter has ADD.  I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.  I’ve been calling her a space cadet since she was in preschool and would give me the wide-eyed look of bliss so characteristic of those who live entirely in their own heads.  I’ve been working around, working with, and compensating for her distractibility all along.  To me it’s no big deal. Apparently it’s a different matter where the school system is concerned.  They want me […]

TT #12: Pros and Cons of Bifocals

I got my first pair of bifocal glasses recently.  They are taking a bit of getting used to.  So this is a quick list of what I like and don’t like about them. 1.  The ground at my feet is no longer clear so I don’t always notice the marbles my dd leaves scattered on the floor.  Yes, I could tip my head way down, but why bother for every step?  What?  Did you say something about marbles? 2.  When […]

What's an ENTP?

I took a Blogthings quiz and got this:  ***You Are An ENTP*** The Visionary You are charming, outgoing, friendly. You make a good first impression. You possess good negotiating skills and can convince anyone of anything. Happy to be the center of attention, you love to tell stories and show off. You’re very clever, but not disciplined enough to do well in structured environments. In love, you see everything as a grand adventure. You enjoy taking risks for love. And […]

7 Facts about Alice Audrey

As I said over on Jodi’s blog, Jodi being the one who tagged me for this, I’m not that interesting.  So I’m going to modify the rules for this post.  Just a little. The real rules: Link to the person who tagged you; Leave a comment on their blog so that their readers can visit yours; Post the rules on your blog; Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog; Tag 7 random people at the end […]

Thursday Thirteen #11

Things I Learned This Christmas I meant to post this last week, but had a different one keep coming up on me. So, though it’s a bit late, here is my post-Christmas review. 1. Christmas isn’t the same for everyone. 2. Snow helps a lot for Christmas spirit, but it’s not so good for trees. 3. Family makes all the difference. 4. It’s better for the whole family to make a big adjustment than for one person to be left […]

Italian and Spanish

Natasia, our resident glob trotter who knows several languages, got to talking about English, Spanish, French, and Italian today.  She said this:  “When I go to Italy I speak Spanish with an Italian accent and they understand me, even compliment me on my Italian. LOL. It’s just singing Spanish.” The phrase “singing Spanish” struck me as profound.  She still doesn’t see it, but maybe you do.  😀 Alice
