Suzie’s House 248: Mr. Magoo

“Hey, who is that hombre?” Carlos gestured with the end of his rifle. “What man? Ah, in front of La Panaderia?” Juan barely glanced. He kept his attention on the ruin of the old Décor building on the other side of an enormous, cracked and pot-hole ridden parking lot. If he let himself get distracted, Los Guerreros del Perro would take them out. “Si’, that one. What is he doing?”

The Serialists of February 15

55 – From the Shelter of Love

From deep inside this love – a lifetime of warmth and consideration –  it’s easy to view the world as my oyster.  What would make me cry for weeks is now but a moment’s sniffles.  All tribulations fall to this delicious cushion.  Though I know it’s the same for him, I can not thank him enough. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by the […]

13 Spoons

How many of you have a hodge-podge of utensils in your drawer? Seems I never outgrew “College Chic”. There are a few repeats, but most of my spoons came from second hand stores. Spoons, knives, forks – they are all mixed up from a wide variety of sets ranging from those cheap camping spoons with the yellow handles to silver silverware. Now and then I think I should actually break down and get a set, but I’m happy with these.

Suzie’s House 247: Finding a Story

Ben sat in front of his laptop and stared at a blank screen. A few month ago this would have freaked him out, but now he was used to it. Mrs. Audrey said that staring into space is part of writing too. So it was ok if the screen stayed blank for a while. Knowing that made it easier to write.

The Serialists of February 8th

Sometimes I wish I could shine the spotlight on all of you all at once. Trying to choose between you all is very hard. This week I enjoyed Susan Helene Gottfried’s Shape Shifter tales. Chesapeake by James Michener p.460

When he saw the entry completed, as well ad Mr. Semmes could have done, he had to turn away lest he betray his emotions, for Matt was the first in his lineage going back five thousand years who could write, and his arrival at learning seemed much like the arrival of the colonies at nationhood; prospects unlimited lay ahead. 55- Crunch

So satisfying this destruction of glassy film as if a footprint could put a dint in the cold and snow. Goodbye, lacework of Winter. I will not wait for the Spring sun. Crunch underfoot though only a quarter of an inch the breaking ice feels like it will drop me neck deep in water. Walking, each step feels like a risk. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction […]

13 Paper Cranes

Last Spring I promised my kid’s I’d open an Etsy store. A couple of weeks ago I finally got around to it. We’re selling hemp necklaces and paper cranes. Wanna see? Well, those are some of the earrings anyway. If you’d like to get a better look or want to enter my contest, you can check out my Etsy store here.

Suzie’s House 246: The Invisible Girl

“What are you looking at?” Lisa grabbed at Ben’s hand so he wouldn’t get caught up in the surge of students that passed them when another class came flooding into the hall. Ok, so maybe she just wanted to hold Ben’s hand. Lately he’d gotten this far away look in his eye, like his mind was somewhere she couldn’t go. It made her uncomfortable. He had that look right now, staring at something in the river of students.
