Anything for a Laugh

“You’ll do just about anything for a laugh, won’t you,” he said “Yep. Just about.” She grinned “Have you no dignity?” “Nope. Dignity is too expensive.” It wasn’t until years later, thinking of all the times he let people go, or went away hurt for the sake of dignity that he understood. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by the G-man, a host with […]

Suzie’s House 313 : Two Masks

There was no backstage, and the principal refused to let them darken the gym where folding chairs had been set up for the audience because of some liability thing, and they had to wear some stupid badge that just said they were registered for the talent show, but that wasn’t Emma’s worst problem. She had two masks.

Along Came Trouble by Sherryl Woods p.313

Liz took to working in the bookstore as if it was what she’d been born to do. She loved opening the boxes that arrived from the distributor — it felt just like Christmas morning. I am such a slow reader. Even my new glasses aren’t helping. There was a time that I would have read thirty book in the time I’ve spent on this one. MizB of Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesday. Grab your current read, open to a […]

Monday?

Well, I knew the convention would be continuing into Monday, but I didn’t think I would be. I had a great time, meet some nice people, learned a thing or two, and generally am pleased with myself. Only problem is, now I’m tired. 🙂

An Argument About Reincarnation

On a warm, summer’s evening on the patio, Amy and her best friend waxed philosophical. “In my previous incarnation I was Marie Antoinette.” Amy took a sip of wine and waited for Rebecca to argue. “No you weren’t. You couldn’t have been.” Rebecca spoke with complete conviction. “How do you know? Do you have any proof?” “Because I was Marie Antoinette.” The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction […]

13 Self Defense Tools

Well, defense from being tickled anyway. The Girl likes to bug me until I drop whatever I’m doing and chase her through the house. She wants to share the various things she’s used to fend me off. 1. A shoe 2. a section from a tent pole 3. a chip bag clip 4. a blanket 5. a laundry basket (which she pulled over herself and tried to hide under. Didn’t work) 6. a cardboard tube leftover from wrapping paper. 7. […]

Suzie’s House 312 : Where to Get a Mask

“Here you go.” Bruce pulled his latest creation out of his backpack and put it on the lunch table in front of Emma. “For tomorrow, when we play in the school talent show.” Emma sucked air in through her teeth and her eyes bugged out like he’d put a snake on her lunch tray. It was great. “Want me to help you put it on?” He reach out like he was going to take the mask back, but she quick […]

Along Came Trouble by Sherryl Woods p.230

“I gather from Walker that King had a big family meeting scheduled for one night last week, but I spoiled his sneak attack by not going home that night.” Not a real quick read for me, but I’m enjoying it. MizB of Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesday. Grab your current read, open to a random page, share a couple of “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page. Go see Should Be Reading for more detail.

Photos on Etsy

Last week was pretty hectic with choir and drama stuff and The Boy getting busy. Seems when the kid’s schedules rev up, so does mine. But what’s really taking my attention right now is my Etsy store. Recently Etsy added an option that will allow it’s craftsmen to offer digital files. Well, I certainly have enough digital files. Especially if we are talking about pictures. I thought, heck, why not? So I’ve been digging around in my archives for picture […]

Years Later

His former lover came to visit. She couldn’t help but remember the night the ex stayed over – how she bounded across the darkened living room to the couch like a deer in a field. Yet when it came to the choice between hiking around in the park with them or getting the dishes done she said, “have fun” with a wave. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash […]
