Suzie’s House 484: Jumping the Gun

“It’s not my fault.” Lisa sounded even more prickly than Tracy expected.

“When did I say it’s your fault.” Tracy couldn’t help getting a little defensive as she leaned over to look at Lisa’s laptop. “I’m just saying…. I don’t know! It’s just… forty two? Seriously? Only forty two?”

“That’s forty two hits in two days, and it’s only on youtube. I mean, we haven’t put the music video anywhere else yet. Right? Once we get it on Facebook and everything….” Lisa sucked her lips in doubtfully. “I’ve seen a lot of videos that have been online for longer and got less hits than that. Besides, we don’t even have the album sales info yet. Right?”

“That’s why I think we should take it down for now. I mean, it’s a good video and everything. But it’s not… It’s not the quintentinosential video we’re after.”

“You mean quintessential,” Lisa corrected automatically.

The way she always did that really burned Tracy’s butt. Not that she got all rabid about it, but did Lisa have to correct her all the time? She wasn’t even right all the time.

“I meant what I said? Like that movie producer. Terrance Quintintino.”

“You mean…”

“Don’t tell me what I mean!” Tracy huffed so hard a lock of hair that fell forward from her top-knot hairdo went flying. Then it fluffed over her face again. She batted it out of her face three times before it would stay out of the way. Stupid hair.

“You don’t think it’s good enough.” Lisa glared at her.

“No, it’s not that. I mean, it’s good. Really good. The way you go up under the keyboard to show Bruce, and that part where me and Gene are playing together, and everything with Emma in it… It’s all great. But… it’s not enough. I mean, we need for this thing to go viral! If it was going to do it, it would have by now. Right?”

Lisa stared at her computer and bit her lip.

“The song’s only three minutes long, but you’ve got the same shots shown over and over. It… it gets boring.” Tracy said the last knowing full well that Lisa might explode.

Instead, she looked worried.

“You know I’m right. Right? It’s good, but it isn’t really done yet. We need to mix in some other footage and maybe add some kind of story thing. We can’t just be as good as the rest because even with Miranda’s GoPro we’re all just…”

“Kids?” Lisa arched an eyebrow.

It made Tracy think about all the times her aunt said something about them just being kids and not to take things so seriously.

“Amateurs.” Tracy corrected her with a glare. “For now, we’re doing everything under the table and mostly haven’t really done this sort of thing before. Even if we’re trying to make it big, it’s not like we have a big record label behind us. Right? That means if we’re going to make it at all, we have to be better than everyone else. Maybe this is as good as anyone else, but it isn’t better. We need to take it down and do more with it.

“Yeah. Alright.” Lisa seemed alright with it.

“Besides, like you said, we don’t even have the Amazon thing yet or even have the album done. We should have it all together . Right?”

“Yeah. I guess.”

“Pete said he’d do whatever the last things he needed to do by a couple of weeks from now. We’re all done recording so there’s that. And Gene said he’d get Miranda on the Amazon thing. So…. two weeks from now? We can post…”

“I’ve got some ideas. Let me talk to Ben.” Lisa interrupted her. She navigated to the screen in youtube that let her control her account. She hovered over the button. “You sure?”

“Yeah. You’ve got backups, right? Right?”

“Yeah.” Lisa nodded firmly.

“So take it down.”

Lisa hit the delete button. Even though it was what Tracy wanted, seeing their hard work dissapear still hurt a little.
