Suzie’s House 526 : Where’s Vin 2

Vin’s head hurt like the devil when he came to. In the dim confines of the camper, the first thing he recognized was a growing pool of blood on linoleum floor, and the roar of a pick-up engine coming to life. In other words, though the crack at the back of his head had done some damage, but he hadn’t been unconscious for long.

He tried to push himself upright to find his hands had been bound behind his back. That growing pool of blood was getting closer as he watched. Though he’d probably shed a bit of his own blood, the thought of being touched by the thick liquid repelled him.

Flopping like a worm, he got rolled around. From there he was able to get onto the thin cushions of the seating around the table bolted to the floor. This gave him an excellent view of the headless body.

On a groan, he stretched out and closed his eyes. Everything spun on a crazy axis. His stomach made some horrifying rumbles. He fought it down. The last thing he needed was to add his lunch to the crime scene.

Stupid thought. It wasn’t like a little technicolor yawn would make his addition to the crime scene any worse. He was already in the thick of it – as a victim.

Lord knew he’s been in tighter spots. He’d been so close to death’s door that it could be said I played hopscotch in it. It wasn’t like the mad man was going to kill him right away. Based on what Vin had unearthed, it would be exactly fifteen days before Vin could struggle no more.

The truck moved. The pool of blood rolled toward the camper’s door. Hah! If it lead a blood trail behind, that would be fitting. It meant that Vin had been able to pressure the mad man.

Demyan Petrovich. It was supposed to be an internet fraud case, too low on the FBI’s radar to be considered dangerous and too closely tied to The White House for comfort. Just a little side business run by a cousin of a cousin of an ex-wife of someone who like to throw fits.

Vin had expected the case to be time consuming, but regular work. It might have worked out that way, too, if Vin hadn’t found the ear. He’d been unable to find a victim to go with the ear. It was left in some bushes next to where Demyan had parked for a few days. There wasn’t even any proof that it had anything to do with Demyan. Just one of Vin’s little hunches.

Yeah. Just one of those little hunches.
