Suzie’s House 545 : At Emma’s Place II

Sophie was half tempted to step out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel. Though it wasn’t as muggy lately as it had been over Summer, she still would have liked to dry off a bit more before getting dressed. But she could hear voices from the living room. Probably, Emma’s friends had come over.

Though it was nice to see that her shy, awkward daughter had friends, it was a bit of a pain entertaining them all the time. She threw on jeans and a blouse.

When she stepped into the living room, she intended to check up on her daughter, but arrived as Ethan welcomed in a pair of men. Gabriel and what could only be Peter.

Sophie didn’t actually gasp, but maybe her jaw hung a little loose for a few seconds. When Gabriel stayed with them, he’d made no bones about his attachment to another man. She knew he was gay. But to actually see him holding hands with a man….

She wasn’t that kind of narrow minded woman. She could accept this. She plastered a smile on her face and said, “Gabriel! Welcome.”

Both men dropped their duffel bags and rushed over for a hug. Sophie couldn’t help stiffening a little at the unexpected rush. The sandwiched her from either hip and made happy “mmmm” noises while squeezing from both sides. She did know whether to feel more like a kid or a grandmother to them.

“Oh! Right. This is Peter.” Gabriel made the introduction, but neither of them let go.

Gabriel and Peter were smirking at one another. Smirking! They knew this made her uncomfortable and did it on purpose! The jerks!

“Unhand my wife.” Ethan yanked them off. He looked more annoyed than irate.

That was different. Before his little midlife crisis jaunt he would have taken their behavior as an affront to his honor as much as an affront to her. But he seemed to expect this from them even if he didn’t much care for it. Then Ethan shocked her by reaching out to take her hands.

“Are you alright? They’re just fooling around.” He darted an annoyed glance at each man in turn.

She would have pushed him off, but he pulled her into a protective embrace, her back to his front.

“Relax, lover boy. Neither one of us swings that way.” Gabriel grinned like it was all an enormous joke, right down to his own feelings.

“Lover boy?” Sophie pursed her lips. Not that she doubted her husband’s sexual orientation, but it wasn’t an endearment she wanted to encourage.

They shared a gleeful look, then both took up poses like wrestlers right before a take down.

“No! Get away your idiots!” Ethan let go of her and took a step back, hands up defensively.

“You wouldn’t!” Sophie stared at each in horror. Who knew what these men were capable of? Then, proud to be able to prove she was not homophobic, she added, “Not in front of the kids.”
