Iceland Day 10

We started the day with the florist’s greenhouses.

From there we went river rafting on the Hvita glacial river. It was mayhem as we all suited up in wet suits and life jackets that they provided. They bused us in from their headquarters to their choice of get-ins, a choice determined primarily by which way the winds were blowing. They were blowing strong enough to lift a raft when we arrived, but not so much as to push us up stream or make it so we couldn’t avoid dangerous spots.

Our guide pointed out places where the lava flows were affected by wind and gave a mini-lecture on volcanic geology. We learned as much from her as from anyone. She reminded me of my daughter.

Luckily she wasn’t into some of the games the other guides in the other rafts indulged in. These games are designed to drop the unwary into the water. She asked us old foggies if we were interested and got a resounding “NO!”

After that we toured the geothermal power plant. We ended the day at our hotel in Reykjavik.
