“What are you supposed to do with this,” asks Daughter. She holds up a jar of crystallized ginger.
“Um… eat it,” Mom answered.
“What? Just like this?”
“Sure. Try some.” Mom pours out a handful.
“Yum. But if you aren’t supposed to cook it first, why is it in the spice rack?”
“Because I never found out what you’re really supposed to do with it.” Mom grinned.

The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a story in exactly 55 words. Flash Fiction 55 is hosted by the G-man, a host with the most.

Hey… sounds like Galen could use some of this tonight…. Crystalized ginger is a home remedy for nausea!
I can’t think of any recipes that call for crystalized ginger, but like Margaret I’m aware that it’s great for nausea. Maybe it belongs in the medicine cabinet!
Other than ginger ale and tea, I have no idea what purpose ginger serves, lol.
I use regular ginger (ground or in root form) all the time, but this candied stuff… well, maybe I’m eating it out of hand too fast.
Maybe so but how does your stomach feel?
My stomach’s fine, but my tongues on fire.
make ginger naps, ginger ale, i like ginger…and she even played on gilligans island…smiles.
I think it’s good in tea, especially for days when the tummy is queasy or to ease up carsickness.
Alice Audrey…
I keep mine in the freezer
Loved your 55
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
as a singer I suck on it for my pipes (voice)
I find the candied stuff so strong.
Could grind it up and put on buttered toast?
xoox
I actually had this conversation with my daughter!
Just clicked on your name over at G-Man’s comments box and was sent to an unknown destination. Glad you included the link to your (most delicious) 55.
Don’t know whether the clunker is at my end or possibly your feed…..
Worked fine when I tried it.
I only have the powdered kind plus I keep a root of it in my freezer.
