You know you’re getting old when you need more than one pair of glasses. I guess I’m getting there because I’ve had it with my “progression” bifocals and I elected to get distance and reading glasses. Now if only the suckers had some common ground that included my computer monitor. No such luck. Apparently I need a third pair of glasses for the difference.
It all started when my old glasses fell apart in my hand. I had just washed them and was drying them when the plastic frames broke in two places and the left lens popped out. I’d been needing a new prescription for a while anyway, so I got the fastest appointment I could swing and placed my order.
I love the new distance glasses, but considering I probably spend eighty percent of my day looking at my computer each day, they aren’t cutting it. the part that burns is that I told the optometrist I was concerned about the distance available on the reading glasses. She fobbed me off.
So I took the reading glasses back to have them remade for computer distance. They still don’t cut it, though it’s better. Then, I was washing the reading glasses a few days ago… You can guess where this is headed. Yep. The nose piece broke off. I have a nasty suspicion they ended up in the garbage, but i didn’t see them there when I dug through, and now it is already gone.
I’ve pretty much decided I need progressive lenses anyway because I spend waaaay too much time switching between glasses. If they still have the lenses from before, I’ll have those put in again so I can at least see my beads and embroidery thread clearly.
So, sometime today I need to get my reading glasses fixed, and order a pair of progressives. Wish me luck!

I use two pair of glasses too. BUT I use the distance glasses only for driving, don’t use any for mid range, but close in go to FAMILY DOLLAR and look at their glasses. Bausch and Loam $6 here and they work just fine.
I have such a bad astigmatism that the regular reading glasses don’t cut it.
i am getting there…i need to set an eye appointment this week as i just noticed some blurring up close….dang…
Seems like the older you are when you start needing them, the less you need them from then on.
I do okay with one pair of glasses because I can look below the frame to see close up. But if I want to wear my contacts, I need reading glasses to see up close. They say it’s hell getting older and this is just the beginning. Yay.
That is NOT music to my ears. Downhill from here is scary.
I got bifocals a few years ago, but the distance part is just clear glass. But as it turns out, I never use them. Instead, I have a dozen pairs of cheap reading glasses scattered around the house. I only need them for close – distance and the computer monitor are both fine.
I’ve been wearing bottle-bottom glasses since I was 13. Otherwise I might be pretty much the same as you.
I really need new glasses, too. My problem is that I don’t need them for reading or close work such as cross-stitch or stamping, but do for distance (such as watching TV or movies).
Your eyes are younger. Just wait a couple of decades.
LOL…I don’t think my eyes aren’t THAT much younger than yours.
Well, maybe yours were better to begin with.
A distinct possibilty. I didn’t start wearing glasses until high school.
I started in sixth grade, and they were already really, really bad by the time I got glasses.
I can only imagine how troublesome that can be. My father only use reading glass, he can still see distance. I haven’t checkedmy eyes for years but so far I haven’t had problems on reading or seeing a distance object.
good luck with your new pair of glasses
Seems like a lot of people do that as they get older.
