13 Pictures From a Mountain

1.We started off on the Excalibur Gondola to Blackcomb, which is on the most southern part of Whistler Village. Notice that the gondola accommodated bicycles as well as people.

2. Please excuse the poor photo quality. Apparently they don’t wash the gondola windows often. Who knew something that slow moving could get bug splats? Anyway, a nearby lift catered to mountain bikes. You take the lift up, then ride your bike down the course.

3. Product placement? These weren’t too common, but I saw more than one.

4. We were fairly high off the ground for most of the ride.

5. And here the gondola reaches the upper terminal. Ignore the glacier on the right. Check out the lodge on the left. Full facilities including restaurant and info booth. Probably more, but we didn’t stick around.

6. One last look at our gondola. Check out the seat. It’s just a ledge that runs around the inner wall, and protrudes about six inches. Nice padding, though.

7. Photo op, complete with line. If we’d gone past this and then to the left, we’d have been on the peak-to-peak gondola. More on that next week.

8. We took the lift to the summit. From the gondola, you take a trail down hill about two miles to catch the lift. Lots of people went. Notice the little bear on the right part of the entry? It shows the size limit for kids. No babies welcome on this lift.

9. The hike was nice with some good scenery despite the fact we were already close to the tree line.

10. Here’s the base of the lift.

11. The seats accommodate four and have an odd little T-shaped footrest. I’m used to little two-seaters, and didn’t even consider the possibility of a larger size.

12. We got pretty high up.

13. And finally arrived at the highest point.
