A while back I did a Thursday Thirteen in which I mentioned the two-headed giraffe my mother took a picture of while on vacation in Africa. A few of you said you’d like to see the pictures. Here thirteen of the ones of animals she sent me:

There are many different types of antelopes. The Impala is sometimes referred to McDonalds of the savanna -fast food with an M on the rear.

Baboon and baby at Cape of Good Hope

Bleskbok

Notice baby elephant that went with us and half grown elephant (single rider) that was in early training. All other elephant pictures are wild elephants.

Taken in Botswana, not South Africa. Young males learning how to fight.

Giraffes have to lower body to be able to get a drink. Otherwise blood rushes to head and they pass out.

Kudu is the national emblem for South Africa

When one monkey drink, another watches out for predators

Waterbuck

Zebras have different stripe patterns (like human’s fingerprints). Mother zebra takes colt away from herd until colt can recognize mother’s pattern.

AWWWW! Those are awesome! I love the giraffe. The mamma and baby on the wall is cute, but a little sobering. I’d be all, uh, hi!, if I saw that on my patio for the morning coffee… eep!
Happy TT!
Fabulous shots from your mom! The target markings on the back ends of the impalas and the waterbucks don’t seem sportsmanlike, somehow…
It’s got to be some sort of advantage to the animals with the markings. All I can think is it’s better to get bit in the butt than the neck. *shrug*
I have always wanted to visit Africa! And this is exactly why. I have always had a fascination for the continent and it is my dream to one day visit it. I’m afraid that more than likely the only way that I will ever get to visit is through pictures like these though.
Gorgeous photos, really makes me want to go there someday. The two headed giraffe gave me a giggle.
Great photos! Almost makes me wish I was on Safari…or at least at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom.
Awesome photos!
great pictures. I have to admit a safari is on my wish list. oh, for a dose of political stability to make it more tenable.
Cool pics! I love animals!
*hugs*

What beautiful photographs! Thank you for sharing them.
Not only entertaining (two-headed giraffe! ->snork!<-), but educational! Really enjoyed this post.
LOL. I thought it was good.
