Plantar Fascitis

Yep. I’ve got it. Some weird problem with the connective tissue on the bottom side of my foot.

It started in January when I was reaching up for something on a high shelf. In this house I end up doing a lot of reaching up. In fact, I often have to resort to the use of a ladder. I felt a popping sensation in my heel followed immediately by stabbing pain.

Warning. Medical Diagram under the fold.

I thought it was a little odd, but assumed I had just pulled the tendon a bit. It wasn’t like my foot suddenly flopped around uselessly or anything. It just hurt every time I put weight on it for a couple of weeks. So I limped around.

It would get better off and on over the course of a day. But after a couple months I noticed that every morning I would re-injure the foot when I got out of bed in the morning. Apparently I sleep with my toes pointed. The muscle would stiffen horribly.

Now I do a little warm up foot wiggling before I get out of bed and immediately put on some shoes with a little bit of a heel. It’s getting better now, but still very slowly.

The Girl got worried because a friend of hers at school had an ache in her leg that turned out to be cancer. She made me go to the doctor just as I was figuring out how to get by. It turned out to be a good idea because the doctor not only had a word for it, but a set of exercises. Now I’m getting better even faster.

But I still limp around when I first get out of bed.
