Basic Drop Cookies

Kind of look like Sandies don’t they? But no, these are what my old copy of Better Homes and Gardens “New Cook Book” (new about 30 years ago) calls Basic Drop Cookies. They call them basic because the rest of the page is taken up with interesting things you can do to them, like adding lemon and yogurt, or chocolate and peanuts. They are tasty even without all the hoopla.

1 1/4 c flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c butter
1/4 c shortening
1/2 c brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

The Girl made these on her own. She has her own way of doing things, so ignore the box of kitchen tools next to her.Combine flour. baking soda, and salt. Beat butter and shortening. Add sugars and beat until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, then add dry ingredients. Drop from a teaspoon 2 inches apart onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 F for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 30 to 36.
