I Fell In

Jack: (crying) How could this have happened? Tonic did Jill really fall in? I know she can be clumsy sometimes, but I’m clumsier. And she does stupid things now and then, just like me. Remember the time she fell into her bowl of cereal? And there was the time we couldn’t get out of the bathtub. If it weren’t for her help I wouldn’t have gotten out either. She helped me paint the house, and didn’t complain too much when the boys and I got drunk. Except for with the dress. Can’t blame her for the dress. What am I going to do, Tonic? I can’t go on without her. Come back to me, Jill! Come back!

Jill: I’m right here.
Jack: Jill? Is it really you? You aren’t a ghost?
Jill: I’m no ghost.
Jack: But you’re all pale and chalky.

Jill: (wiping mud off her arms) That’s because I fell into that puddle back by the railroad tracks.

Jack: Oh. Didn’t you see the stepping stones?

Jill: (dirty look)
