I Want a Daihatsu

They don’t sell Daihatsu in the USA, but it’s owned by Toyota, so maybe I can get my hands on one. If I could see one up close and personal, I might change my mind, but for now, I’m drooling.

Are you wondering what the appeal is?

Right now I’m driving a big, honking gas guzzler. We’re talking 15 mph with a tail wind. We’re talking seats 10 if we put all the seats back in. Parking is a pain, driving it feels heavy, the view is good because I can see right over the top of a lot of vehicles but the guilt factor is high. Worst of all, most of my driving is of the run-to-the-school-and-pick-up-a-sick-kid variety. It’s the sort of thing I can’t do on my bicycle, but really don’t need a half ton van to accomplish.

So I’m thinking if these are cheap enough, I want something like this.

Mr. Al calls this a chick car. I should make him drive it.

How did I learn about them? A while back someone brought a truckload of these to a grocery store parking lot:

They sold off the back of the truck for $5,000 each. I’ve been kicking myself for not buying one ever since.

Are you drooling over any vehicles? What kind?
