It would be a good day, a day made better by yesterday’s rain. The more pious among the pilgrim throng would have no complaints, since rain could not affect the course of the services inside the great temple. But the majority of pilgrims came as much for the fair as for the holy observances, and if yesterday’s weather had forced them into piety, they would make up for it today.
